Decoding Finance through TikTok: Kyla Scanlon's Creative Approach to Economics

At the age of 25, Kyla Scanlon, a previous options trader, established her own venture called Bread, noted for its creation of humorous videos and skits that gain widespread attention.

She shared with CNBC's "ETF Edge" this week, "I play characters such as [Federal Reserve Chair] Jerome Powell or various stocks, which greatly captivates the audience as it's a unique and fun take on finance, making it more accessible and interesting for them."

Her main objective is to educate the youth about the impact of diverse economic subjects on their lives.

Scanlon explained, "Discussions around the Federal Reserve are often quite nebulous for many. For example, we hear about increasing interest rates, but what does it actually imply? People are interested in understanding the direct consequences on their lives."

One of her widely circulated videos elaborates on the concept of "doomerism." Scanlon describes it as a negative outlook on life and economy, predominantly concentrating on the negative aspects.

She observed, "People find 'doomerism' appealing because it seems to alleviate personal responsibility. However, I aim to provide my audience with a comprehensive grasp of trending Wall Street topics, such as the job market scenario, inflation trends, and recent bank mishaps."

As of the end of this week, Scanlon has amassed nearly 166,000 followers on TikTok, over 156,000 on Twitter, and a YouTube audience of 28,000.
