Kabosu, the dog known for inspiring numerous "doge" memes, has sadly passed away, as confirmed by her owner on Friday.
According to a blog post written by Atsuko Sato, it has been reported that the Japanese Shiba Inu, who was 18 years old, peacefully entered a state of deep slumber on the morning of Friday.
In Sakura, Japan, an observant kindergarten teacher named Sato witnessed birds melodiously singing outside the window on a serene morning. It was during this moment that he noticed, with a gentle touch, that she had peacefully departed. Sato eloquently expressed his firm belief that she had led a truly gratifying life and regarded her as the epitome of canine bliss.
Kabosu gained significant online recognition in 2010, thanks to a widely circulated image of her exhibiting a poised appearance while curiously gazing, with her paws neatly folded. This photograph garnered significant attention and popularity across various platforms, including Reddit and numerous forums.
This subsequently led to the widespread dissemination of "doge" memes, which originated from an intentional modification of the term "dog." Online users exhibited their creativity by superimposing Kabosu's face onto diverse objects, including pastries, renowned landmarks, and different animals.
The popularity of "doge" memes gained significant momentum in December 2013, with Kabosu emerging as the representative of the humorous cryptocurrency Dogecoin. This alternative currency served as a lighthearted reaction to Bitcoin, resonating with the internet's fondness for animal memes. Subsequently, other meme tokens were introduced, such as the Shiba Inu coin.
Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer of Tesla, has expressed a keen interest in Dogecoin and has emerged as one of its prominent backers. In the month of May in the year 2021, he initiated a Twitter poll, seeking the opinion of his extensive base of followers regarding the prospect of Tesla incorporating Dogecoin as a viable means of payment.
One month prior, during a period of cryptocurrencies gaining significant popularity, the demand for Dogecoin experienced a substantial surge. This surge was notable enough to briefly disrupt the cryptocurrency trading system of Robinhood, which is a stock trading and investing platform.
According to a recent statement by Dogecoin on Friday, Kabosu is referred to as the "source of inspiration" for the community. The statement acknowledges the substantial global influence that this dog has had, highlighting its immeasurable impact.
In 2022, Satoshi shared several Instagram posts informing the audience about Kabosu's ongoing battle with leukemia and liver disease. As part of her strategic initiatives, she has expressed her intention to arrange a solemn "farewell gathering" on the upcoming Sunday.
